DEVICE Controller

We controller the striker not the handle

What is the Device Controller?

The Blyx Device Controller is a smart control board designed to interface with a wide range of equipment across facilities. It reads data from devices that communicate via RS485 and controls devices through an onboard relay, allowing for precise on/off state control.

Each controller includes:
• A network connection for real-time communication,
• A data communication channel (or “reader”) that listens to RS485 devices, and,
• A control channel that activates devices through its relay outputs.,

This flexibility means that in the building and facility management industries—where RS485 is commonly used—Blyx can not only monitor device data but also control equipment such as hot water systems, flow meters, lighting, alarm panels, CCTV systems or door strikes through a single platform.

Turning the Controller into a Door Access Solution

This is exactly how the Blyx Device Controller is adapted for use as a Door Controller. By connecting it to an electric striker and RFID reader, the same control board becomes a reliable, networked access system—purpose-built for secure, seamless entry management.

Built for durability, the Blyx Device Controller is engineered to handle the toughest environments, ensuring seamless operation while keeping maintenance simple and straightforward. Unlike traditional systems where electronics are mounted on the door exterior or require cables running through door transfers that endure constant movement, our controller is installed inside the room, protecting it from the elements and minimizing wear and tear on the electronics. This thoughtful design ensures your system remains reliable even in harsh conditions, while simplifying maintenance and repairs.

Flexible, Easy Installation
Installation of the Blyx Door Controller is simple and flexible. The controller receives both network connectivity and power via Cat6 cable with an RJ45 plug, ensuring a quick and reliable connection to your facility’s network. From there, the controller is connected to the electronic striker plate and RFID reader using a 4-core security cable, which links all components seamlessly for secure and smooth operation.

If you're already using electronic strikers but want to upgrade to a more reliable platform, Blyx can easily intercept and take control of your existing system, eliminating the need for a full replacement and minimizing disruption to your operations.

Real-Time Control and Versatile Features
The RFID reader—the only exterior component—comes housed in a weatherproof case to protect it from the elements. Equipped with LED lights, it offers real-time feedback to both guests and sta􀆯. For example, color-coded indicators can signal whether a room is occupied, whether the guest is sleeping, or if the room requires staff attention, allowing your team to respond immediately.

Because the Blyx system connects directly to the striker plate, you also have the flexibility to choose your door handles. In retrofit situations, we ensure the striker plate is compatible with your existing handles. This flexibility makes it easy to upgrade your security system without a complete overhaul. Additionally, we recommend integrating the Bi Lock Quick Change Barrels from the Australian Lock Company for enhanced key management. With this feature, a barrel can be removed and replaced with a new one in less than two minutes if a guest key is lost or compromised. No more key cutting or worrying about how many keys might exist for a room—just quick, reliable key management at your fingertips.

Durability and Easy Maintenance
The Blyx Door Controller is designed to be installed within a standard GPO mounting block inside the room, ensuring protection from external elements. The GPO was specifically chosen because it is easy to work with, readily available, and offers convenient access for maintenance, while remaining discreet and not recognizable as electronics by guests. This setup makes retrofits, repairs, and ongoing maintenance incredibly simple. If you already have a network port available, we can repurpose it for the installation—no need for additional infrastructure or complex wiring.

With the Blyx Door Controller, you get a reliable, low-maintenance system that’s built to thrive in challenging environments. Whether you're upgrading your current system or installing new tech, Blyx ensures a smooth transition and ongoing support, empowering your team to focus on what really matters: providing a seamless, secure experience for guests and staff alike.

Access Control Features: Reliable, Even Without Network Connectivity
The Blyx Door Controller is built with intelligence at its core, ensuring seamless operation even when there’s a temporary loss of network connection. Since the controller's intelligence is embedded directly within the unit, it can continue to function independently if the network is down. Once the controller has been provided with the relevant access permissions, it will continue to operate as programmed until it is told otherwise.

This means that in the event of a network issue, the Blyx Door Controller will continue to grant access to guests without interruption, ensuring smooth operations. Even without an active network connection, the system can maintain access control and allow guests to enter their rooms as needed. Thanks to a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), the controller can keep running until the network is restored, ensuring no downtime or disruption in guest access.

Whether it's a brief network outage or a more prolonged issue, Blyx ensures that your access control continues to work reliably, minimizing potential disruptions and keeping operations running smoothly.

Environment Controller

Smart Data, Smarter Decisions

Environmental Controller

The Blyx Environment Controller is the powerhouse of the Blyx platform— designed to work beautifully on its own or even better when paired with a Blyx Door Controller. Together, they provide a seamless blend of access and environment automation. But even when deployed independently, the Environment Controller delivers powerful insight and automation capabilities that can elevate your facility’s efficiency and responsiveness.

Just like the Door Controller, the Environment Controller receives network and power via a single Cat6 cable with an RJ45 plug, making installation quick and clean. If there’s an existing network port in the room that’s no longer in use, we can easily repurpose it—no complex rewiring or infrastructure upgrades required.

Every Environment Controller comes standard with temperature, humidity, and light sensors, providing continuous environmental monitoring right out of the box. To suit different spaces, the controller also supports up to three modular plug-and-play sensors. These can be swapped or upgraded as needed and include:
• Human Presence Detection – confirm occupancy
• IR Emitter – control AC units or TVs
• Acoustic Sensor – monitor sound levels
• CO₂ Sensor – track air quality
• VOC Sensor – detect fumes or chemicals
• Gas Sensor – identify hazardous gas build-up

This modular approach makes it easy to tailor each controller to its environment—whether it’s a guest room, quiet zone, or chemical storage area.

Real-time environmental data unlocks a wide range of automation opportunities and operational improvements—giving you the visibility to optimise air conditioning, prevent mould, forecast maintenance needs, and enhance guest comfort, all without adding to your team’s workload.

Temperature & Humidity
• Monitor AC performance: Track changes in temperature when AC units are turned on, off, or set to a specific temperature to ensure they're working correctly.
• Mould prevention: Analyse patterns in temperature and humidity to identify potential mould risks, often caused by issues with extraction fans or poor airflow.
• Energy consumption insights: When paired with energy data, monitor changes in power usage related to room temperature adjustments based on external conditions.

IR Module
The IR Module can control any device in the room that uses a remote control.
• Guest experience: Program automated commands for AC units and TVs to create a smoother guest arrival experience. Let the guest select their arrival conditions through the Blyx App.
• Automated actions: Set automation to trigger when a reservation expires, such as adjusting room conditions or turning off devices.

Human Presence
• Confirmation of check-in: For facilities without electronic access control, use human presence data to verify if a guest has checked in.
• Monitor room occupancy: See if a guest has overstayed their reservation, or if a room is still occupied past checkout time.
• Noise management: Identify night shift workers in their rooms while they sleep, allowing the facility to avoid disturbances.
• Evacuation readiness: In case of an emergency, this data helps identify rooms still occupied by guests.
• Room vacancy checks: Cross-reference room occupancy with reservations to confirm whether the room is vacant.

Light Sensor
• Energy efficiency: Detect if lights have been left on in a vacant room.
• Sleep quality: For night shift workers, monitor light levels to ensure the room conditions are conducive to good rest.

Additional Data Points
The Environment Controller can also support additional sensors such as Acoustics and CO2 levels. As the device is designed to fit within a custom enclosure, facilities can easily swap it out for an updated version to add more data points as needed.

Expanding What Blyx Can Do

Whether you’ve installed the Door Controller, the Environment Controller, or both, you’ve already laid the groundwork for a smarter, more connected facility. From there, Blyx is built to grow with you. The platform is designed to easily integrate with a range of additional devices—extending its reach beyond access and room automation into areas like energy management, asset tracking, and smarter maintenance workflows. These optional add-ons allow you to tailor the system to your unique needs, unlocking even more efficiency and insight across your site.

Energy Management: Laundries
With Blyx, managing shared laundry facilities becomes simpler, smarter, and far more guest-friendly. When Energy Monitoring devices are added to your system, Blyx can detect which machines are currently in use based on real-time power consumption. That means guests can open the Blyx App to check which laundry rooms have free machines—no more walking around or guessing. For facility managers, this data does more than just show availability. If a machine is plugged in but rarely draws power, it could be a sign that it’s faulty or underperforming—Blyx flags these so your team can investigate before it becomes a guest issue. Over time, the platform also captures usage patterns, helping you understand laundry preferences, machine performance, and even identify which machines are working hardest and may need replacement sooner. From improving the guest experience to making informed decisions about maintenance and equipment placement, Blyx helps you keep your laundry operations efficient, transparent, and easy to manage.

Energy Management: Smart Power Control for Low Occupancy Rooms
Energy management goes beyond simply saving power—it's about making smart decisions with the resources you have. For rooms with low occupancy, Blyx empowers you to optimize energy use by automatically turning off high-energy devices when they're not in use. If Environment Controllers aren’t required due to minimal room occupancy, Blyx can integrate with power management devices to control specific circuits— whether it's for AC units, hot water systems, or other high-energy devices. These circuits can be switched off and back on again from the comfort of the office, ensuring power is only used when and where it’s needed most. What’s even more impressive? Blyx can be programmed to perform pre-emptive checks on rooms a few days before they're scheduled for use. This ensures that devices like AC units, TVs, and other amenities are functioning properly before guests arrive. No more relying on manual checks to ensure everything is working, and no more wasted energy when rooms aren’t in use. With Blyx, you’re not just saving energy—you're also automating maintenance, reducing manual tasks, and ensuring every device is ready to go when it’s needed, without any unnecessary energy drain.

Bluetooth Beacons: Device Tracking
Did you know the RFID readers in the Blyx system also have built-in Bluetooth receivers? That means you can use Bluetooth beacons to track important items across your facility in real time. These small, discreet devices can be attached to key sets, cleaning trolleys, maintenance carts, buggies, vehicles—basically anything you don’t want to lose track of. The beacons constantly send out a signal, and with enough Blyx readers positioned throughout the facility, the system can detect their location with impressive accuracy and near real-time updates. Need to find where a cleaning trolley is right now? Easy. Want to make sure a maintenance cart hasn’t wandered o􀆯? Done. Misplaced a set of keys again? Just check the map—no more retracing your steps and playing detective. We also recommend attaching RFID tokens to all key sets. With a quick scan, the system logs who has what, when they took it, and where it was last seen. So, if something goes missing or shows up where it shouldn’t, you’ll know exactly who to speak to—no guesswork required.
